Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women’s Lacrosse falls in OT to Lasell, 10-9

NEWTON, Mass. -- The Washington & Jefferson women's lacrosse team suffered a heart-breaking 10-9 overtime loss to Lasell on Tuesday afternoon in Newtown, Mass.

With the loss, the Red & Black are now 1-4 to start the year. The Lasers, on the other hand, are 2-1 in 2019.

Junior attacker Rae LaRochelle (East Sandwich, Mass./Sandwich) continued her hot start to the year by leading the Presidents with four goals today. The East Sandwich, Mass. native paces the team through five games with 18 points and 15 goals. She has tallied multiple goals in all but one game in 2019.

Sofiya Bobrovnikova (Philadelphia, Pa./Northeast) also finished with multiple goals, finding the back of the net twice against the Lasers. The sophomore midfielder is up to eight points and seven goals.

Rounding out the Presidents' scorers today were Jenna Allen (Sanford, Fla./Seminole), Clara Sherwood (Indiana, Pa./Indiana Area) and Graycen Vitale (Gibsonia, Pa./Mars Area) with one goal each.

Today's game was a game of runs, as both teams traded surges every few minutes. The Red & Black started by taking a 6-3 lead four minutes into the second half. Lasell answered by scoring five of the next six goals to go ahead 8-7 with 18:25 left on the clock.

The Presidents rallied to end the game, forcing OT by scoring two of the final three goals. Unfortunately for W&J, this late momentum was not carried over into OT, as the Lasers won the draw and went down and scored the game-winner 48 seconds into the period.

Junior goalie Sara Maute (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J Roberts) played all 60:48 in cage and made 12 saves. She also paced the Red & Black with five ground balls.

W&J will have eight days off before returning to action on Wednesday, March 20, to challenge Marietta at 6 p.m. at Alexandre Stadium.
