W&J scores a season-high 17 goals in win over Marietta

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson women's lacrosse team put together its best offensive performance of 2019 on Wednesday evening, topping Marietta by a 17-3 final score at Alexandre Stadium.

With the win, the Presidents improved to 2-4 on the year, winning back-to-back home games. The Pioneers, on the other hand, fall to 1-6 on the season.

Eight Presidents combined to help W&J score a season-best 17 goals. Of those eight goals scorers, six posted two-plus tallies.

Leading the Presidents' offense was Rae LaRochelle (East Sandwich, Mass./Sandwich) with a season-high seven points on four goals and three assists. The junior attacker has tallied four-plus points in all but one game this season, as she paces W&J and is fourth in the PAC with 25 points. With seven points tonight, LaRochelle moved into fifth on W&J's career points leaderboard with 170.

Sofiya Bobrovnikova (Philadelphia, Pa./Northeast), Kayla Boulas (North Branford, Conn./North Branford) and Graycen Vitale (Gibsonia, Pa./Mars Area) all finished the day with a season-high four points each. Bobrovnikova netted three goals and one assist, while Boulas and Vitale had two goals and two assists. Vitale's four points is a new career high for the sophomore.

Clara Sherwood (Indiana, Pa./Indiana Area) and Alexis Miller (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) rounded out W&J's multi-goal scorers with two tallies each.

Junior goalie Sara Maute (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J Roberts) started for the Presidents and made three saves to pick up her second win of 2019. Freshman Sam Lenfesty (Frederick, Md./Frederick) made three saves and allowed one goal, playing 30 minutes in the second half.

The Presidents dominated many of the team statistics in today's contest. W&J held convincing leads in shots (34-13), shots on goal (28-9), ground balls (17-8) and draw controls (17-5).

The Red & Black will look to ride tonight's momentum into a road nonconference bout against Marymount on Saturday, March 23, at 6 p.m.
