ARLINGTON, Va. -- The Washington & Jefferson women's lacrosse team suffered a 16-7 nonconference loss to Marymount (Va.) on Saturday evening in Arlington, Va.Â
Today's defeat drops the Presidents to 2-5 overall this season, while the Saints improve to 7-4.Â
The Red & Black took control early in the game with a pair of goals in the first 5:23.
Piper Schinsky (Princeton, N.J./The Hun School of Princeton) scored the first goal, while
Sofiya Bobrovnikova (Philadelphia, Pa./Northeast) put W&J up 2-0.Â
Marymount answered by scoring nine of the next 10 goals. The lone Red & Black tally came from Bobrovnikova.Â
Trailing 9-3,
Rae LaRochelle (East Sandwich, Mass./Sandwich) began a W&J rally before the end of the first half. LaRochelle found the back of the net with 5:45 left in the stanza, cutting the deficit to 9-4.Â
Back-to-back goals by
Alexis Miller (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and Bobrovnikova to start the second half drew the Presidents within three, 9-6.Â
After trading tallies over the next few minutes, the Saints secured the win by tallying the final six goals.Â
Bobrovnikova finished the game with three goals, her second consecutive contest with a trio of scores. The sophomore midfielder is second on the Presidents in 2019 with 13 tallies and 15 points.Â
Junior goalie
Sara Maute (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J Roberts) played all 60 minutes in goal for the Presidents, making 10 saves in a losing effort. After today, Maute paces the PAC with a .550 save percentage.Â
The Red & Black will play its final nonconference game of 2019 on Wednesday, March 27, against Frostburg State in road action at 5 p.m.
