Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

W&J wins second straight, beats Muskingum, 13-9

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson men's lacrosse team picked up its first home win of 2019 today, besting Muskingum by a 13-9 final score at Alexandre Stadium.

With two straight wins under their belts, the Presidents sit at 3-4 in 2019. The Muskies drop to 2-3 on the year and are now 1-1 against PAC teams this season.

W&J dominated the game early, taking a 10-3 lead into the halftime break. Benjamin Ward (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and Alex Strain (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) commanded the half with three goals each.

Muskingum rallied in the second half, drawing to as close as three points, 12-9, with 9:46 remaining in the game. That's the closest they would get, however, as the Presidents added one more score to win 13-9.

The Red & Black had one of their better games of the year statistically, as they had the team's second-highest totals of goals (13), shots (34) and ground balls (37). W&J also won a season-best 13 face offs with Nicholas Grosch (Butler, Pa./Butler) claiming 12.

Ward paced all players with four goals in the game. The Canonsburg, Pa. native is second on the team with 15 goals and is third with 19 points.

Pat Brunner (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Saint Joseph) posted a season-best five points on three goals and two assists. Brunner has logged multiple points in all but one game this year.

Strain finished with four points on three goals and one assist. The rookie from Pittsburgh, Pa. continues to lead the Red & Black with 23 points and 18 goals.

Noah Cohen (Hewlett, N.Y./George W. Hewlett) made 10 saves in cage in a complete-game effort. Cohen still leads the PAC with 16.57 saves per game and a .577 save percentage.

The next game on W&J's docket is a 1 p.m. tilt against Wilmington on Saturday, March 16, at Alexandre Stadium.
