WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson women's lacrosse team kicked off the PAC portion of its 2019 schedule with a dominating 22-9 victory over Chatham on Saturday, March 30.Â
Following today's game, the Presidents are now 3-6 overall this season, while the Cougars drop to 2-4.Â
The first half of today's bout was evenly contested, as W&J went into halftime with an 8-7 lead.
Rae LaRochelle (East Sandwich, Mass./Sandwich) fueled the Presidents' early offense, scoring four times in the first half to lead all players.
Piper Schinsky (Princeton, N.J./The Hun School of Princeton) was next on the team with two scores in the first 30 minutes.Â
W&J picked up its attack in the second half, scoring 14 of 16 goals in the stanza to pick up the double-digit victory. LaRochelle, Schinsky and
Clara Sherwood (Indiana, Pa./Indiana Area) all finished tied for the team lead with three goals in the second half.
LaRochelle ended the day with career highs in both points (9) and goals (7). The junior attacker paces the Presidents with 37 points and 29 goals.Â
Schinsky logged a season-high six points on five goals and an assist. Fellow rookie Sherwood also posted a season-best with four goals.Â
It was just a matter of time until the Presidents gained control of today's game, as they held commanding advantages in shots (44-17), shots on goal (39-15), ground balls (32-14) and turnovers (33-26).Â

Sam Lenfesty (Frederick, Md./Frederick) made her first career start against the Cougars, posting six saves in 60 minutes to earn the win.
The Presidents defense was strong throughout the contest, as five different players recorded two caused turnovers. Sherwood grabbed a match-high six draw controls while adding a pair of caused turnovers. Defenders
Katelyn White (Linthicum, Md./North County)Â and
Allison Onslow (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) registered four ground balls and two caused turnovers each.Â
