WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Six different players scored as the Washington & Jefferson College women's lacrosse team recorded a 12-5 victory over visiting Juniata College in non-conference play at Alexandre Stadium.
Freshman
Piper Schinsky (Princeton, N.J. / The Hun School of Princeton) led the Presidents with three goals, while
Sofiya Bobrovnikova (Philadelphia, Pa. / Northeast),
Clara Sherwood (Indiana, Pa. / Indiana Area),
Rae LaRochelle (East Sandwich, Mass. / Sandwich) and
Alexis Miller (Carlisle, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) recorded two goals each.
Graycen Vitale (Gibsonia, Pa. / Mars Area) tallied the other score for W&J.
Behind strong defensive play and timely scoring, W&J built a 5-0 halftime lead over the Eagles. Bobrovnikova recorded the first two scores of the day and
Sara Maute (Pottstown, Pa. / Owen J Roberts) stopped all 10 shots she faced in goal during the first half.
Three straight goals in the second half, the last of which was scored by Schinsky, extended the W&J advantage to its largest at 9-1 with 18:07 left. With the score at 10-4, La Rochelle registered the final two goals of the day for the Presidents.
Sherwood recorded a game-high nine ground balls, while Bobrovnikova finished with seven ground balls and a game-high seven draw controls.
The win improves its record to W&J to 1-3 overall, while Juniata falls to 3-2 in 2019.
W&J travels to the Boston area to face Lasell College on Tuesday, March 12. Start time is slated for 12 p.m.
