WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The W&J men's tennis team won five of six singles matches to earn a 6-3 victory over Saint Vincent College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference match at the Janet Swanson Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.
Saint Vincent got off to a nice start in the match, picking up wins in two the three doubles spots to take a 2-1 edge into singles play. The lone W&J win in doubles came at the top spot, as
Nate Wang (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) and
Sam Bellini (Mount Lebanon, Pa./Mount Lebanon) cruised to an 8-1 victory over the top tandem from SVC.
The Presidents dominated singles play, winning five of the six spots to secure the win. Wang cruised at first singles, winning 6-0 and 6-1. Bellini claimed a 7-5, 6-4 victory at second singles while
Stephen Mehlbaum (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) earned a hard fought win at third singles by scores of 7-6, 2-6 and 10-4.
Max Perilstein (Glenside, Pa./Cheltenham Township) and
Josh Hnat (DuBois, Pa. / DuBois) both secured singles wins at the fourth (6-1, 6-3) and fifth (6-2, 6-2) spots, respectively.
W&J improves to 8-2 overall and 3-0 in the PAC. Meanwhile, the loss is the second straight for Saint Vincent, who falls to 6-3 overall and 2-2 in the league.
The Red and Black return to action when they host Westminster College on Wednesday, April 10. Start time is set for 6 p.m.
