PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- Two first half goals led Aurora University to a 2-0 victory over the Washington & Jefferson College women's soccer team Sunday morning at the Carnegie Mellon University Tartan Cup.
The Spartans tallied the opening goal in the 24th before adding another in the 38th minute. That was all of the scoring in the contest as the Presidents were shut out for the second time this season. Aurora held advantages in shots (16-8), shots on goal (8-4) and corner kick opportunities (5-2).
Junior midfielder
Marcy Saldivar (Darlington, Pa./Blackhawk) paced the Presidents offensively with three shots. Sophomore midfielder
McKenna Lewis (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) added two shots. Senior goalkeeper
Beth Boyles (Dundee, Ohio/Hiland) got the start in goal and made two saves in the first half. Freshman goalkeeper
Gabriella Lloyd (Butler, Pa./Butler) played the final 45 minutes and stopped four shots without surrendering a goal.
The loss drops W&J to 0-2 overall while Aurora moves to 1-1. The Presidents host Franciscan University for the home opener at Alexandre Stadium on Wednesday, Sept. 4. Start time is slated for 6 p.m.
