Men’s Water Polo Competes At Mercyhurst

PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College men's water polo team played three matches over the weekend at the Mercyhurst Invitational.
 
Date: Friday, Sept. 13, 2019
Where: Erie, Pa.
Opponent: Mt. San Antonio
Result: L, 4-23
 
How it Happened: Mt. San Antonio jumped out to an 11-1 halftime lead and cruised to victory. The Presidents notched a goal in each quarter.
 
Top Performers: Kyle Rubenstein (Abington, Pa./Upper Dublin), Robert Koch (Worcester, Pa./La Salle College), Dylan Gwinn (Baltimore, Md./Mount St. Joseph) and Andrew Edwards (Columbus, Ohio/St. Charles Prep) each had a goal. Nick Spehar (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) made five saves.

Where: Erie, Pa.
Opponent: Mercyhurst
Result: L, 8-12
 
How it Happened: Mercyhurst opened up a 9-1 lead over the first three quarters before the Presidents rallied to score five goals in the final period.
 
Top Performers: Gwinn had three goals and Ian Geister (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) added two more.
 
The Rest: Will Kitsch (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin), Rubenstein and Ethan Moy (New York, N.Y./The High School for Math, Science & Engineering) each added a tally. Spehar collected four saves.

Opponent: Penn State Behrend
Result: L, 7-11
 
How it Happened: Penn State Behrend led 7-2 at halftime and both teams scored four goals in the second half.
 
Top Performers: Rubenstein and Geister scored two goals apiece.
 
The Rest: Kitsch, Tyler Francis (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and Koch each recorded one goal. Spehar made seven saves in the defeat.
 
 
W&J men's water polo (1-5) heads to Lewisburg, Pa. for the Bucknell Invitational next weekend.
