WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Two early first half goals lifted Penn State Behrend to a 4-2 victory over the Washington & Jefferson College women's soccer team in non-conference play Saturday at Alexandre Stadium.
The visiting Lions recorded a pair of corner kick goals by Taylor Mealie, one coming in the 6th minute before another was added in the 13th minute. PSB used the pair of goals to build a 2-0 lead at halftime.
The Lions tacked on back-to-back goals late in the second half to stretch the advantage to 4-0.
McKenna Lewis (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) got W&J on the board in the 80th minute, scoring off a pass from
Chandler Marteeny (Somerset, Pa./Somerset).
Marcy Saldivar (Darlington, Pa./Blackhawk) tallied her second goal of the year, as the junior found the back of the net in the 90th minute to close the scoring.
Shayla Watkins (Charleroi, Pa./Charleroi) got the start and made three saves in the first half.
Gabriella Lloyd (Butler, Pa./Butler) registered three saves over the final 45 minutes.
PSB held several advantages over W&J in the match: shots (19-5), shots on goal (10-3) and corner kicks (7-1).
W&J hosts Carnegie Mellon for a non-league game on Friday, Sept. 20. Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
