Men’s Soccer Falls at Wooster

WOOSTER, Ohio -- Wooster scored in the 21st minute and held on to hand the Washington & Jefferson College men's soccer team its first loss of the season on Saturday afternoon.

After both teams had shots turned away in the first 10 minutes of the contest, Wooster's second shot on target found its way into the back of the net following a lead pass near midfield.

Both teams attempted one shot apiece over the final 24:30 in the first half and the Fighting Scots clung to a 1-0 advantage.

In the second half, Wooster stayed aggressive and outshoot the Presidents 10-1. The only attempt for the half for W&J came in the 54th minute on a header by freshman Colin Martincic (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) from a corner kick by Alex Molina (Bowie, Md./Reservoir).

Goalkeeper Ian Donlon (Latham, N.Y./Albany Academies) made three saves to keep the Presidents within a single goal over the final 45 minutes.

Overall, Wooster outshot W&J 17-4 and held an 8-1 edge in shots on goal.

Nicholas Maknoon (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) fired the Presidents' only SOG in the 5th minute, but was turned away by Wooster goalkeeper Will Collis.

Donlon played all 90 minutes and collected seven saves.

Men's soccer returns to Alexandre Stadium Wednesday evening for a home non-conference matchup with Penn State Altoona at 7:00 p.m.
