WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson women's soccer team fell 3-1 to Ohio Wesleyan in non-conference action at Alexandre Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Battling Bishops built a 3-0 halftime advantage thanks to goals in the 3
rd, 26
th and 38
th minutes of play.
The Presidents' only two shots of the first half came on a free kick from
McKenna Lewis (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) in the 27
th minute and a header by
Hannah Johnston (East Freedom, Pa./Central) in the 44
th minute. OWU goalkeeper Taylor Floyd stopped both attempts.
Early in the second half,
Marcy Saldivar (Darlington, Pa./Blackhawk) corralled a goal just inside the 18-yard box, took aim and blasted home her first goal of the season.
Wies Achtereekte (Deventer, The Netherlands) looked to bring W&J within a single goal with a shot on frame in the 77
th minute following a corner kick, but was turned away and the Presidents did not record another SOG for the afternoon.
Freshman goalkeeper
Gabriella Lloyd (Butler, Pa./Butler) notched four of her season-high 10 saves in the second half to keep OWU off the scoreboard in the game's final 45 minutes.
Five of W&J's six shots were on goal with five different players each recording an attempt.
Women's soccer plays just two games in the next 12 days with Penn State Behrend coming to Washington, Pa. on Saturday Sept. 14 and Carnegie Mellon visiting the following Friday evening.
