Presidents Drops PAC Dual 22-21 to Waynesburg

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College wrestling team was edged by Waynesburg 22-21 on the Presidents' senior night at the Salvitti Family Gymnasium. The Presidents picked up a 45-6 non-conference dual victory over Penn State Fayette earlier in the evening. 
 
The Presidents were victorious in six of 10 weight classes, but were downed due to three Waynesburg pins and one major decision. A pin in the final minute of the final period of match by Waynesburg's nationally-ranked heavyweight Rocky McGeary decided the match.
 
Zachary Kremer (Millville, Pa./Millville) collected a forfeit at 125 pounds to hand the Presidents an early 6-0 advantage.
 
Daniel Florentino (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) used a takedown a near fall in the final moments of the first period to open a 4-0 lead over MattLascola at 141 pounds, and held on to collect a 7-3 decision.
 
Michael Heinl (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler) defeated Josh Kuslock at 149 pounds 9-4 to push the Presidents ahead 12-4.
 
Following a pair of Waynesburg pins, Jaden Datz (Ruffs Dale, Pa./Southmoreland) earned a 9-5 decision over Jace Guy at 174 pounds.
 
Hunter Neely (Cokeburg, Pa./Bentworth) picked up a 14-7 decision at 184 pounds over Dillion Charlton, and Alex Donahue (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) secured a 3-2 victory at 197 pounds.
 
Heading into the final match, the Presidents owned a 21-16 advantage. W&J 285-pounder Jake Walker (McDonald, Pa./South Fayette) battled into the third period with McGeary, Division III's fifth-ranked heavyweight, but was pinned in the match's final minute.
 
The Presidents also picked up a 45-6 non-conference dual victory over Penn State Fayette. The Presidents collected seven forfeits in the win. Austin Washic (Colver, Pa./Central Cambria) earned an 8-2 decision over Fayette's Aaron Mylan at 157 pounds.
