Women's Lacrosse drops road contest at Allegheny

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- Allegheny College used a strong second half to put away the Washington & Jefferson College women's lacrosse team in a 14-7 decision in non-conference play Thursday night.

The Presidents jumped out to a 3-0 lead behind early scores from Kayla Boulas (North Branford, Conn./North Branford), Clara Sherwood (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) and Alexis Miller (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) less than three minutes to play. Allegheny rallied back to score the final five goals of the first half to enter the break with a 5-3 advantage. Sam Lenfesty was able to keep the Presidents within striking distance with 10 first half saves.

Miller brought the Presidents back within a score following another goal by Miller, which cut the deficit to 5-4 just 20 seconds into the second half. Allegheny would counter with five straight goals to extend the edge to 10-4 at the 20:34 mark of the half. Sofiya Bobrovnikova (Philadelphia, Pa./Northeast), Sherwood and Sarah Labovitz (Great Falls, Va./The Bullis School) tallied a goal each down the stretch to close the scoring for W&J.

Miller paced the Presidents with a three-point night while Sherwood added a pair of goals. Labovitz filled the stat sheet with a goal, an assist, seven ground balls, six caused turnovers and five draw controls. Lenfesty finished with a season-best 16 saves in the loss.

The loss drops the Presidents to 2-3 overall while the Gators move to 2-1.

W&J returns to action with a pair of games in Clearwater, Fla. next week. The Presidents face Marywood University (Monday) and Hiram College (Tuesday) as part of their Spring Break trip.
