CLEARWATER, Fla. -- The Washington & Jefferson College women's lacrosse team was defeated 18-4 by Marywood in the Presidents' first of two spring break games in Florida on Monday morning.
The Presidents fall to 2-4 on the season while Marywood remains unbeaten at 4-0.
The Pacers scored in the game's first minute and added two more goals within 28 seconds of each other to take 3-0 led with 26:30 to play in the first half.
Freshman
Sarah Labovitz (Great Falls, Va./The Bullis School) put the Presidnets on the board with a free position tally at 25:10 to play.
Six different Marywood players scored as the Pacers reeled off an 8-0 run to lead 11-1 with 6:39 left in the half.
Labovitz set up
Alexis Miller (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) for the Presidents' second goal with 3:05 remaining in the first half as Marywood led 11-2 at the game's midway point.
Labovitz opened the scoring in the second half as she collected the opening draw control and scored in the first minute of the second half.
Marywood responded with five-consecutive goals over 11 minutes to push the game to a running clock as the Pacers led 16-3 with 16:37 left in regulation.
Labovitz fired in a free position attempt for her third goal of the contest with 13:56 remaining.
Marywood scored twice in the final 10 minutes to bring the final to 18-4.
Labovitz led the Presidents with four points (3G, 1A) and snagged a game-high six draw controls and four ground balls. Miller scored W&J's only other goal.
Clara Sherwood (Indiana, Pa./Indiana Area) and
Sofiya Bobrovnikova (Philadelphia, Pa./Northeast) each had four draw controls on the day.
Sam Lenfesty (Frederick, Md./Frederick) made 11 saves in goal for W&J.
Despite being outshot, W&J owned a 14-10 advantage in the draw control circle.
The Presidents take on Hiram tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. at the Countryside Sports Plex.
