WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson men's water polo team earned a pair of wins on Saturday afternoon. The Presidents battled to pick up a narrow 12-10 victory over Augustana before earning a decisive 18-9 victory over Penn-State Behrend.
W&J honored the senior class composed of
Will Kitsch (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin),
Robert Koch (Worcester, Pa./La Salle College),
Kyle Rubenstein (Abington, Pa./Upper Dublin), and
Cam Spicer (Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) for their four years of hard work and dedication to the program.
W&J 12, Augustana 10
The brother tandem of
Andrew Edwards (Columbus, Ohio/St. Charles Prep) and
Chris Edwards (Columbus, Ohio/St. Charles Prep) led the Presidents offensively as they each recorded three goals. Andrew was the only President to score more than one goal in a quarter as he recorded two goals in the first.
The Presidents built a 7-4 lead going into halftime. W&J tacked on four goals in the third quarter as they continued to hold the lead.
Chris Edwards, Spicer,
AJ Alderman (Camp Hill, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and
Mitchell Rubio (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) all recorded one goal for the Presidents extending the lead 11-8.
Chris Edwards recorded the lone goal for the Presidents in the fourth quarter to maintain the multi-goal lead over Augustana.
Goalkeeper
Caine Dusza (Souderton, Pa./Souderton) recorded eight saves to help W&J edge Augustana.
W&J 18, Penn State Behrend 9
W&J rolled in the nightcap, as the Red and Black ripped off six straight goals to start the match.
Koch, Spicer and Rubenstein each scored in their final appearance at home. Rubenstein scored a career-high four goals against the Lions. Spicer and Koch were right behind, finishing with two total goals each. Spicer found the back of the cage twice in the fourth quarter in the 18-9 victory.
Dusza recorded two saves in the first quarter before giving way to
Zishuo Ma (Los Alamitos,Calif./Los Alamitos), who recorded seven saves throughout the next three quarters.
W&J will travel to New London, Connecticut for the College Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III Eastern Championship, which will be held from October 23-October 24.
