WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Westminster scored a goal in each half to claim a 2-0 victory over the Washington & Jefferson College women's soccer team in a Presidents' Athletic Conference match Saturday at Alexandre Stadium.
The match appeared to be heading to a scoreless tie at halftime. However, a Brooke Horvath goal with 58 seconds remaining in the half gave the Titans a 1-0 edge at halftime.
Sophia Kaplan found the back of the net in the 63rd minute of play to extend the Titans lead to 2-0. Westminster was able to keep W&J off of the scoreboard as they finished off the shutout victory.
Westminster out-shot W&J by a 27-4 margin, which included a 12-2 edge in shots on goal. Westminster recorded all five corner kick chances in the match.
Kayla Daugherty (Prospect, Pa./Slippery Rock Area) and
Makenna Mann (Herndon, Va./South Lakes) each had one shot on goal for W&J.
Gabriella Lloyd (Butler, Pa./Butler) registered three saves and allowed one goal in the first half.
Abby Hipkins played the final 45 minutes and finished with seven saves while also allowing one goal.
W&J hosts Saint Vincent College for a PAC match on Wednesday, Oct. 6. Start time is slated for 8 p.m.
