ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- A pair of second half goals pushed first place St. John Fisher past W&J by a 2-0 score Saturday afternoon in an Empire 8 match in New York.
The Presidents are now 4-7 overall and 3-4 in E8 play. The Cardinals improved to 9-6 overall and remain perfect at 7-0 in conference play.
Both teams jumped out to a fast start, as they both registered six shots during a scoreless firsrt half. St. John Fisher's Audrey Grieb broke through in the opening minutes of the third quarter. Grieb scored off a pass from Alyssa Andres in the 32nd minute.
Grieb added her second goal of the day, as she was able to send into the back of the cage.
Saint John Fisher narrowly out-shot W&J by a 12-10 margin. The Cardinals held the slight 11-9 edge in penalty corners over the Presidents.
Goalkeeper
Anastasia Godat (Baltimore, Md./Concordia Preparatory School) registered six saves for the Presidents with four of those saves coming from the second half.
Madeline Hubbard (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area) and
Lina Crowley (Potomac,Md./Bullis School) led the Presidents with three shots each.
Hailey Wachowiak (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) finished with two shots.
W&J will return home on Wednesday October 27 to host Juniata in non-conference play. The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
