Men's Soccer scores season-high four goals in road win at Geneva

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- Senior defender Quinn Pickering (Camp Hill, Pa./Camp Hill) produced the go-ahead goal in the 73rd minute of play to help the Washington & Jefferson College men's soccer team spoil Geneva's Senior Night in a 4-2 victory for the Red and Black Saturday night.

The four goals were a season-high for the Presidents, who entered the match with just 10 goals in 11 games.

With the win, W&J improves to 4-4 in PAC play and 5-7 overall in 2021. The win was W&J's fifth straight in the head-to-head series with Geneva. The Golden Tornadoes drop to 4-4 in the league and 6-8-2 overall. Both teams head into their regular season finales with a chance to clinch a spot in the upcoming PAC Tournament.

Sophomore Parker Byas (Columbia, Md./Mount Saint Joseph) scored off a pass from senior Joey Feola (Carnegie, Pa./Central Catholic) in the 23rd minute of play. Byas tacked on another goal in the 28th minute to make it 2-0 Presidents. After a shot by Feola was saved, Byas collected the rebound and finished past Geneva goalkeeper Gabe Kemp.

The Presidents were able to carry the multi-goal lead into halftime. Geneva goals by Cole Sauer in the 50th minute and Alex Yoder in the 68th minute evened the match at 2-2.

Pickering helped W&J answer nearly five minutes later when he buried a shot into the top left corner of the goal from 35 yards out. The Pickering score gave W&J a 3-2 edge in the 73rd minute. W&J tacked on an insurance goal when freshman Nolan Agostoni (Greensburg, Pa./Latrobe) beat the defense and scored unassisted in the 80th minute.

Senior goalkeeper Sam Miller (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) made four stops in 90 minutes to record his fifth win of the season.

W&J prevailed despite being out-shot by a 17-10 margin. Geneva also held a decisive advantage in corner kicks (10-2).

The Presidents travel to Bethany for a critical conference game on Wednesday, Oct. 27. Start time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. W&J will clinch a spot in the PAC Tournament with a win over the Bison.
