Women's Soccer finishes regular season with fourth straight win

BETHANY, W.Va. -- The Washington & Jefferson College women's soccer team used three second half goals to down host Bethany College by a 4-1 score in the regular season finale for both teams Tuesday evening at Don Ault Field in West Virginia.

The win was the fourth straight for W&J, who finishes the regular season with a 6-2-1 mark in Presidents' Athletic Conference play and a 9-7-2 overall. Bethany finishes the season 0-9 in conference play and 4-12 overall.

McKenna Lewis (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) found the back of the net twice in the victory for the Presidents. The senior forward opened the scoring in the 18th minute of play when she scored on a header off a corner kick from classmate Courtney Crivelli (Beaver, Pa./Beaver).

W&J held the one-goal lead until the final minutes of the first half when the Bison were awarded a penalty kick opportunity. Kaitlin Pickett converted the chance to tie the score at 1-1 heading into halftime.

Lewis put the Presidents back in front in the opening minutes of the second half. The senior slapped a shot past the Bethany keeper to give W&J a 2-1 edge in the 48th minute of play.

Senior forward Katie Hahn (Volant, Pa./Wilmington) played a role in each of the final two W&J goals. Sophomore midfielder Katie Brown (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) scored on a touch pass from Hahn to make it 3-1 in the 79th minute. Brown has now scored a goal in three consecutive games.

W&J added a fourth goal for good measure in the 86th minute, as Hahn found a trailing Aimee Toscano (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Area), who used her left foot to tuck the ball inside the right post. The score was Toscano's first collegiate goal.

W&J held statistical advantages in shots (16-4), shots on goal (9-2) and corner kicks (10-2).

Lewis and Hahn led W&J with four shots apiece while Brown finished with three.

Junior goalkeeper Gabriella Lloyd (Butler, Pa./Butler) recorded her seventh win of the season, as she made one save over the final 45 minutes.

W&J finishes the regular season with 19 points in PAC play. The Presidents await the results of Wednesday's matches to determine its seeding and opponent for the upcoming PAC Tournament. W&J will be either the No. 2, No. 3 or No. 4 seed. The Presidents will host a game in either the PAC quarterfinals on Saturday, Oct. 30 or the PAC semifinals on Wednesday, Nov. 3.
