WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College wrestling team commenced the 2021-22 season by competing at the Lycoming College Invitational in Williamsport. The event was the first competition for the program in 617 days.
No team scoring results were compiled at the season-opening event. The event was broken into two separate brackets, with juniors/seniors competing in one bracket and freshmen/sophomores competing in the other.
Three Presidents finished unbeaten on the day. Leading the way was senior
Jaden Datz (Ruffs Dale, Pa./Southmoreland), who finished with a 3-0 record while competing at 174 pounds. Datz opened his day with an 11-5 victory by decision over Jake Hipps (York Pa.). He then added a 7-3 victory by decision over Kyle De Moss of Otterbein. Datz then finished his day with a 13-3 major decision victory against Joseph Garcia of Lycoming.
Newcomers
Brayden Roscosky (Vandergrift, Pa./Kiski Area) and
Seth Fleming (Harrington, Del./Lake Forest) each posted 3-0 records during their collegiate debuts.
Roscosky posted an impressive collegiate debut with two wins by fall and a third victory by tech fall at 184 pounds. Roscosky opened with an 18-2 victory over Matthew Knapp (Lycoming). He added victories by fall (4:04) over Kevin Jorgensen (Oneonta State) before pinning Nino Prisco of Oneonta State in 4:09.
At 133 pounds, Fleming opened with an injury default victory (5:00) against Santos Ocasio of Oneonta State. The newcomer secured a 7-3 victory by decision over Tamas Eder (Otterbein) before edging Colman Ermi (York (PA)) by a 7-6 score.
Manny Dovshek (Scenery Hill, Pa./Bentworth) earned a pair of victories by fall at 133 pounds. The senior pinned Thomas Conselyea of Lycoming in 4:05 before pinning Peter Sacco of Oneonta State in just 57 seconds.
Logan Marko (Roaring Spring, Pa./Central) registered a pair of victories for the Presidents at 157 pounds. The junior earned a 10-8 victory against Hunter O`Connor of Lycoming to open his season. Marko made quick work with a pin of Joseph Cinquemani from York (PA) in just 33 seconds.
Vinnie Catania (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) secured a pair of wins at 141. Catania won by fall (5:43) over Blake O`Brien of Elmira College. He then posted a sudden victory (10-8) against Greg Brach of Oneonta State.
W&J hosts its annual W&J Invitational in the Ross Recreation Center inside the Henry Memorial Center on Saturday, Nov. 13. Start time is scheduled for 9:45 a.m.
