Women’s Lacrosse opens 2021 with win over Waynesburg

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College women's lacrosse team opened its 2021 campaign with a convincing 23-2 victory over Waynesburg on Saturday afternoon.
 
Nine different players found the back of the net for the Presidents in the win. The Presidents dominated the draw control circle as W&J held a 19-7 edge in DCs.
 
W&J raced out to an early lead with nine goals in the game's first ten minutes. The Presidents forced a rolling clock for good with a Sarah Labovitz (Great Falls, Va./The Bullis School) tally putting W&J ahead 12-2 with 11:52 left in the first half.
 
The Presidents led 15-2 at halftime and scored all eight goals in the second half.
 
Labovitz and freshman Sofia Jenkins (Hughesville, Md./The Calverton School) each notched a team-high eight points. Labovitz recorded three goals, five assists and three draw controls. Jenkins had four goals, four assists and a team-high eight draw controls.
 
Freshman Sadie Firman (Richmond, Vt./Mount Mansfield Union) had five goals in her collegiate debut. Sophomore Amanda Effland (Frederick, Md./Frederick) had three goals and four assists. Freshman Aisa Uhler (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) scored twice and dished an assist.
 
Clara Sherwood (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) had six draw controls and a pair of goals. Emily Heck (Reading, Pa./Berks Catholic) scored twice as well.
 
Sam Casile (New Kensington, Pa./Plum) and Becca Ghion (Sutersville, Pa./Yough) each added one goal. Katelyn Walzer (Sewickley, Pa./North Allegheny) registered an assist.
 
Freshman goalkeeper Kaitlyn Brown (Charlotte Hall, Md./La Plata) made four saves in her debut and collected the win.
