WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College men's lacrosse team opener Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play with a convincing 18-3 victory over Franciscan at Alexandre Stadium on Wednesday evening.
The Presidents rise to 2-2, 1-0 in PAC play while Franciscan falls to 0-7, 0-1 PAC.
Junior
Alex Strain (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) and senior
Brendan Tribeck (Enola, Pa./Trinity) each tallied seven points on the evening. Strain scored five times and handed out a pair of assists. Tribeck had one goal and matched a career high with six assists.
Senior
Nicholas Grosch (Sarasota, Fla./Butler) had a sensational day at the faceoff X as he went 17-19 on faceoffs and gobbled up a career-best 15 ground balls. Grosch also added a goal and an assist in the win.
Reilly Oliverio (Carlisle, Pa./Trinity) had five goals and one assist.
Carter Watts (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) scored three goals and handed out one assist.
Liam Sullivan (Hingham, Mass./Xaverian Brothers) had a goal and an assist.
Sam Snider (Morgantown, Va./University) and
Zach Mey (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) each added one goal.
Luke Geister (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and
James Deiuliis (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) each caused four turnovers. Geister snatched nine ground balls as well.
Brody Alloway (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) earned the win between the pipes for the Presidents. Alloway made nine saves in 60 minutes of action.
W&J scored the game's first six goals and built a 10-1 halftime lead. The Presidents didn't allow the visiting Barons to score in the game's first or fourth quarters.
The Presidents outshot Franciscan 51-26 and 32-12 on goal.
W&J continues league play Saturday night at Westminster.
