Men's Soccer rolls to 7-0 Senior Day win

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College men's soccer team rolled to a 7-0 shutout victory over Thiel College on Senior Day Saturday afternoon at Alexandre Stadium.

The win improves W&J to 5-0-1 in PAC play while Thiel drops to 0-6-0 in the conference.

W&J didn't waste any time celebrating its Senior Day, as Thomas Davidson (Upper Saint Clair, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) found the back of the net off a pass from Michael Komaniak (Oakmont, Pa./Riverview) in the third minute. The Presidents tacked on another when Jake Fetterman (Pottstown, Pa./The Hill School) gathered a pass from Davidson and scored in the 19th minute. John Appiah (Greenville, S.C.) tallied a third first half goal for W&J when he scored off a touch from Jayden Da (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery).

Early in the second half, the Presidents tallied consecutive goals in the span of a minute. Fetterman found the back of the net off of a pass from Komaniak in the 49th minute. Komaniak then scored in the 50th minute off an assist from Appiah.

Nicholas Maknoon (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) joined the Senior Day party with a penalty kick goal in the 87th minute. Davidson tallied his second goal of the day, when Fetterman assisted the score in the 89th minute.

Ian Donlon (Latham, N.Y./Albany Academies) got the start in net and made three saves in 90 minutes of game action. He improved his record on the season to 2-0.

W&J held major advantages in shots (29-5), shots on goal (18-3) and corner kicks (10-2).

The Presidents honored Appiah, Davidson, Donlon, Fetterman and Maknoon prior to the match for their contributions over the past four seasons, which included the 2019 PAC Championship.

The Presidents welcome Geneva College to Alexandre Stadium for a key conference clash on Tuesday, April 13. The Golden Tornadoes enter the match with 18 points while the Presidents sit in second place with 16 points. Start time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
