Women’s Soccer plays to scoreless draw at Franciscan

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio -- The Washington & Jefferson College women's soccer team played to a scoreless draw at Franciscan on Tuesday afternoon.
 
The Presidents move to 1-2-2 on the season and in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play. Franciscan now stands at 2-3-1 overall and 2-1-1 in league play.
 
Goalkeeper Abby Hipkins (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) made three first half saves as the Lady Barons outshot W&J 5-1 over the game's first 45 minutes.  
 
The Presidents outshot Franciscan 11-2 in the second half with seven attempts on frame.
 
W&J fired three shots on goal in the final five minutes of regulation but Makenna Mann (Herndon, Va./South Lakes), Katie Hahn (Volant, Pa./Wilmington) and Alie Seto (Allison, Pa./Brownsville) were all turned away by Franciscan keeper Marita Ostrich.
 
In the first overtime period, the only shot came in the 97th minute by Franciscan that went wide left.
 
Hahn fired a shot in the 106th minute that was saved and set up Lexey Finney (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillian) in the 110th minute, but Finney's attempted sailed wide right. Hahn fired a shot in the final seconds, but was turned away.
 
For the game, W&J outshot Franciscan 14-11 (9-6 shots on goal). Hahn led W&J with five shots, four of which were on goal. Erin Herock (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton) had three shots, two on goal.
 
Hipkins posted her third shutout effort of the season with six saves in 110 minutes. She also tended the W&J net in a scoreless tie at Saint Vincent and a 1-0 win at Waynesburg.
 
After staring the season with four of their first five games on the road, the Presidents host Thiel on Saturday.
