BETHANY, W.Va. -- The Washington & Jefferson College women's lacrosse team defeated Bethany 18-3 on Tuesday evening.
The Presidents remain unbeaten at 4-0 and move to 2-0 in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) conference play. Bethany falls to 1-3, 0-1 PAC.
W&J reeled off five goals in the game's first three minutes and triggered a running clock on a goal by
Amanda Effland (Frederick, Md./Frederick) with 19:46 to play in the first half that put the Presidents ahead 11-1.
W&J led 15-2 at halftime and outscored Bethany 3-1 over the final 30 minutes.
Five different players scored at least three goals for the Presidents.
Effland led W&J with seven points on three goals and four assists.
Sofia Jenkins (Hughesville, Md./The Calverton School) had four goals, one assist, six draw controls and caused three turnovers.
Clara Sherwood (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) scored four times.
Becca Ghion (Sutersville, Pa./Yough) recorded three goals and one assist.
Lina Crowley (Potomac, Md./The Bullis School) tallied three goals and a team-high seven ground balls.
Sam Casile (New Kensington, Pa./Plum) added one goal.
Sarah Labovitz (Great Falls, Va./The Bullis School) had an assist and three draw controls
Kaitlyn Brown (Charlotte Hall, Md./La Plata) made a dozen saves between the pipes in the victory.
W&J outshot Bethany 30-16 and held a 28-15 edge in shots on goal.
W&J heads to Westminster on Saturday.
