W&J sweeps Waynesburg in PAC women's tennis opener


WAYNESBURG, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College women's tennis team rolled to a dominant 9-0 road victory over Waynesburg in the Presidents' Athletic Conference opener for both teams on Sunday afternoon. 

The Presidents raced out to an early 3-0 lead by taking victories in all three doubles flights. Senior Maya Krishnasamy (Ventura, Calif./Ventura) and freshman Nidhi Pulicherla (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton) breezed to a 9-0 victory at No. 1 doubles. Junior Bella Goldman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) and sophomore Libby Conlon (Renfrew, Pa./Knoch) registered an 8-4 victory at No. 2 doubles while junior Victoria Wilson (Butler, Pa./North Catholic) and Jaelyn Kennedy (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) logged an 8-2 victory over the Yellow Jackets tandem at the No. 3 doubles position. 

Krishnasamy completed her flawless day with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Kyleigh Schmidt in No. 1 singles play. Pulicherla recorded her second straight singles victory, as the newcomer won by a 6-1, 6-1 score at No. 2 singles over Madison Ramsey. 

Goldman easily dispatched of her opponent, Hayley Sweeney, by a 6-2, 6-1 score at the No. 3 position. Conlon didn't drop a point at No. 4 singles as she won 6-0, 6-0 over Marina Hastings. Kennedy was victorious by a 6-0, 6-1 score over Ashley Smith at the No. 5 singles spot. Newcomer Pooja Potluri (West Fargo, N.D./West Fargo) rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 victory against Emily Schafer at the No. 6 position. 

W&J travels to Geneva College for a PAC match on Wednesday, Sept. 15. Start time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
