BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- For the second consecutive match the Washington & Jefferson College women's tennis team swept a Presidents' Athletic Conference opponent. On Wednesday evening, the Presidents defeated host Geneva College by a 9-0 score at the Blackhawk Courts in Beaver County.
The Presidents earned three competitive victories in doubles play before rolling through singles play with six victories.
First-year
Pooja Potluri (Fargo, N.D./West Fargo) and junior
Victoria Wilson (Butler, Pa./North Catholic) teamed up to secure an 8-6 victory at the No. 3 doubles spot. At second doubles, junior
Bella Goldman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) and sophomore
Libby Conlon (Renfrew, Pa./Knoch) tallied an 8-3 win.
Senior
Maya Krishnasamy (Ventura, Calif./Ventura) and newcomer
Nidhi Pulicherla (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton) won by an 8-4 score at the No. 1 doubles position.
After facing some resistence in doubles play, W&J had an easier time in singles play. Krishnasamy breezed to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles. Pulicherla, the reigning PAC Rookie of the Week, won by an identical 6-0, 6-0 score at the No. 2 singles position.
Goldman (6-1, 6-0) and Conlon (6-1, 6-1) secured victories at No. 3 and No. 4 spots, respectively. Potluri fought for a 10-6 victory in a third-set tiebreaker after splitting the first two sets 6-1, 3-6. Wilson dominated at No. 6 singles, as she won by scores of 6-0 and 6-0.
W&J (2-0 PAC, 2-1 overall) looks for its third straight PAC win on Saturday, Sept. 18. Start time is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Janet Swanson Tennis Center.
