Allegheny takes down W&J in OT, 2-1

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Allegheny scored in the 95th minute to defeat Washington & Jefferson women's soccer team by a 2-1 score in overtime at Alexandre Stadium on Tuesday evening.

The loss drops the Presidents to 2-4 overall. The victory was the first for the Gators this season, who improve to 1-4.

After a scoreless first half, W&J struck first in the 55th minute of action when senior Katie Hahn (Volant, Pa./Wilmington) scored a goal with an assist from sophomore Makenna Mann (Herndon, Va./South Lakes). This was Hahn's second of the season and 13th career goal.

W&J couldn't hold the lead long, as Natasha Rose evened the score for Allegheny in the 61st minute with a shot that found the back of the net.

Both teams were unable to secure the game-winning goal over the next 29 minutes and the match headed to overtime. The Gators' Emma Miller sent the away team home with the victory after a left-footed blast in the 95th minute of play.

In total, Allegheny held a slight 9-8 advantage in shots. Hahn took four shots to pace the Presidents, while sophomore midfielder Katie Brown (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) added two shots.

Junior goalkeeper Gabriella Lloyd (Butler, Pa./Butler) got the start in goal and recorded three saves during a clean first half in goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Abby Hipkins (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) played the final 49-plus minutes and stopped one shot.

W&J will travel to Ohio this Saturday, September 18 to face Hiram College. The non-conference match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
