NEW CONCORD, Ohio -- Freshman midfielder
Olivia Olsen (Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs) found the back of the net in the 71st minute to lift the Washington & Jefferson College women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory at Muskingum on Sunday afternoon.
Sophomore
Kayla Daugherty (Prospect, Pa./Slippery Rock Area) staked the Presidents to an early lead with a goal off of a corner kick in the seventh minute of play. Daugherty's goal was assisted by senior forward
Katie Hahn (Volant, Pa./Wilmington). W&J held onto that lead for more than 50 minutes until Muskingum used a Brianna Mackie goal to even the score at 1-1 in the 61st minute.
A little more than 10 minutes later, Olsen helped W&J secure its first win of the 2021 season. The goal was the second in as many days for Olsen, who tallied her first collegiate goal Saturday against St. John Fisher. Olsen's game-winning goal Sunday was assisted by classmate
Maegan Martin (Beaver, Pa./Beaver) and sophomore
Katie Brown (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley).
Sophomore goalkeeper
Abby Hipkins (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) recorded the victory in net. Hipkins made two saves in the second half. Junior goalkeeper
Gabriella Lloyd (Butler, Pa./Butler) made one save and shut out the Muskies over the first 45 minutes.
W&J (1-2 overall) hosts Penn State Altoona for a non-conference game at Alexandre Stadium on Wednesday, Sept. 8. Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
