ERIE, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College men's water polo split a pair of matches Saturday at Penn State Behrend. The Presidents opened Saturday with a 14-6 victory over host Penn State Behrend before dropping an 18-14 decision to Salem University.

The Presidents scored at least three goals in all four quarters in the win over the Lions. W&J took a 3-1 lead after the first quarter before building a 6-4 advantage at halftime. The Presidents tallied eight of the 10 second half goals to put away the victory. W&J outscored PSB by a 5-1 margin in the fourth quarter.
Chris Edwards (Bexley, Ohio/St. Charles Prep) paced the Presidents with four goals.
Ryan Bannon (Broomfield, Colo. / Broomfield) added a hat trick to back Edwards. Five other Presidents found the scoring column in the victory over the Lions.
Mitchell Rubio (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) and
Christopher Furlong (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) tallied two goals apiece.
Caine Dusza (Souderton, Pa. / Souderton) made 12 saves and had four steals in goal.
Salem 18, W&J 14
W&J opened up a 6-2 after the first quarter but were unable to carry that momentum forward. Salem tallied seven of the nine second quarter goals to pull in front by a 9-8 margin. Salem then stretched its lead to 13-9 after the third quarter. Both teams scored five goals in the fourth quarter.
Chris Edwards scored six goals to lead W&J in the loss. Rubio added four scores, three of which came in the fourth quarter. Furlong added two goals to aid the W&J offense.
Dusza made 12 saves in the loss to Salem.
W&J (6-5) concludes action Sunday with a match against Mercyhurst at 10:30 a.m.
