WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College women's soccer team tallied an early first half goal to take a 1-0 victory over Allegheny College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference match Saturday afternoon at Alexandre Stadium.
The Presidents got out to an early lead early as
Makenna Mann (Herndon, Va. / South Lakes) found herself open for a crucial shot, as she would find the back of the net. Mann found a loose ball off a deflection after a W&J corner kick and drilled the shot through the hands of the Allegheny goalkeeper.
The Presidents garnered another chance in the first half with a shot that was blocked in the 28th minute. The Presidents would hold the 1-0 lead until halftime.
Allegheny put more pressure on the Presidents in the second half as they were more aggressive on offense but W&J's back line of Coutnrey Actis (Bechtelsville, Pa. / Boyertown Area),
Katie Brown (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley), and Jackie Flessiner (Eighty Four, Pa. / Canon-McMillan) held strong over the final 45 minutes to preserve the victory.
Gabriella Lloyd (Butler, Pa. / Butler) finished with four saves to help the Presidents post its second shutout of the season.
The win lifts W&J to 3-2-4 overall and 2-1-1 in the PAC. Allegheny moves to 2-6-2 overall and 1-2-0 in league play.
W&J travels to Waynesburg University for a conference match on Tuesday, Oct. 4. The match will start at 8 p.m.
