Three different Presidents record hat tricks in 11-0 win over Penn State Beaver

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson women's soccer team stormed through Penn State Beaver for an 11-0 victory Wednesday evening in a non-conference match at Alexandre Stadium.

The Presidents scored early often in the victory. A total of 12 Presidents recorded a point in the contest. Katie Brown (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) scored the first of her three first half three goals in the third minute of play.

This goal by Brown would be immediately be followed up by two quick goals scored first by Peyton Behling (Annapolis, Md. / Severn School) after being set up by Courtney Actis (Bechtelsville, Pa. / Boyertown Area) and the third goal being scored by Brown again as Faith Bobnar (New Eagle, Pa. / Ringgold) set up a nice shot on goal to put the Presidents up 3-0 just 10 minutes into the game.

In the 22nd minute, the Presidents would extend the lead to 4-0 when Brown scored an unassisted goal to complete her first collegiate hat trick.

Six minutes later, W&J tallied three additional goals in a two-plus minute span. Aurora Odell (Edinboro, Pa. / General McLane) would be assisted by Sydney Snyder (Loudonville, Ohio / Loudonville). Odell's score banged off the left post and into the back of the net. Kendall Obley (Buena Vista, Pa. / McKeesport) followed with a pair of goals over the next minute. The first Obley goal was assisted by Odell while Tori DeVere (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) used a long pass to assist the second Obley score.

Just before the half concluded Odell found the goal again as she was assisted by Obley in a late effort which put W&J up 8-0 going into the half.

The Presidents started the second half similar to how they started the match by providing persistent offensive pressure before Audrey Chapman (Elkins Park, Pa. / Phil-Mont Christian Academy) found the back of the net just 1:57 into the second half. The Chapman score was assisted by Hannah Goldman (Naples, Fla. / Barron Collier).

In the 77th minute, Odell found the back of the net for the third time to register a hat trick. Maddie Dittrich (Allison Park, Pa. / Hampton) assisted the third Odell goal, which gave W&J its second player with a hat trick.

The Presidents tallied their final goal of the match in the 88th minute of play. Tori DiCesare (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin)'s corner kick set up Obley for her third goal of the night. Obley became the third President to register a hat trick in the match.

This is first time that W&J has recorded three hat tricks in a match since at least before 2001. W&J had two players (Jen Pergola and Tori Lynn Simonini) who each recorded a hat trick in a 10-0 win over Chatham on Sept. 24, 2002. The 11 goals is the most in a match since W&J scored 12 in a win over Carlow on Sept. 13, 2003.

W&J out-shot the Lions by an 41-0 margin and registered 24 shots on goal after not allowing the Lions to hold possession past midfield allowing them to shutout Penn State Beaver in regards to any shots. Senior goalkeeper Gabriella Lloyd (Butler, Pa./Butler) started and played the first 20 minutes before giving way to sophomore goalkeeper Kalea Umali (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Shaler). Lloyd and Umali didn't see much action since the Presidents back line held strong and maintained a presence when the Lions encroached their side of the field.

The Presidents improve to 4-3-5 on the season while the Lions drop to 2-8 overall.

W&J hosts Geneva College for a conference tilt on Saturday, Oct. 15 for Senior Day. Start time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
