WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson men's soccer team played to a 2-2 draw against Geneva Saturday under sun splashed skies on the Presidents' Senior Day at Alexandre Stadium.
The Presidents found the back of the net late in the first half when
Zach Bowser (Beaver, Pa. / Beaver Area) tallied an unassisted goal. Bowser squeaked the ball past the approaching goalkeeper in the 38th minute to allowed W&J to take a 1-0 lead into halftime. The goal was Bowser's team-leading sixth score of the season.
The beginning of the second half looked similar to the first as both teams seemed to fend each others attacks off until Geneva finally broke through after two fouls on W&J players. Justin Finnegan scored high center on a free kick in the 72nd minute to tie the score at 1-1.
The Presidents quickly regained the lead when junior
Parker Byas (Columbia, Md. / Mount Saint Joseph) found an open lane in Tornadoes territory and scored in the 79th minute. The goal was his fifth of the season by Byas.
The Golden Tornadoes wasted little time in retying the score, as Carnel Kerr scored off an assist from Blaise Burns in the 81st minute. Neither team scored over the final nine-plus minutes.
Both units registered hefty shot totals by the last horn as W&J held a slight shot advantage (14-13) and a 7-6 edge in shots on goal. Geneva had an edge in corner kicks (7-4).
Sophomore goalkeeper
Charles Boldosser (Westminster, Md. / South Carroll) registered another full 90 minutes of play. He finished with seven saves on the night. Byas led all players in the match with five shots.
The Red & Black travels to Westminster for a match on Saturday, Oct. 19. The conference bout will start at 7:30 p.m.
