WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College volleyball team dropped a four-set decision to visiting Grove City in a Presidents' Athletic Conference match Saturday at Salvitti Family Gymnasium.
The loss drops W&J to 3-5 in PAC play and 11-9 overall. Grove City improves to 15-9 overall and 6-2 in the league.
The two teams traded the opening two sets with the Wolverines edging the Presidents 25-23 in the opening set. W&J responded with a 25-18 victory in the second set. Grove City gained early leads in the third and fourth sets en route to set wins of 25-19 and 25-21 to take the match.
W&J was led offensively by junior middle hitter
Lizzie Carmichael (Wyoming, Ohio/Wyoming) produced 15 kills, a .406 hitting percentage and five total blocks. Senior outside hitter
Claire Sauerland (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) tallied 13 kills and hit .343 for the match. Freshman outside
Faith Fetsko (South Park, Pa./South Park) finished with 14 kills and 15 digs in the loss.

Piper McFarland (West Mifflin, Pa./Cornerstone Preparatory Academy) finished with a collegiate-best 41 digs. Sophomore setter
Adrianna Sacramento (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) finished with 47 assists 12 digs and a career-high six total blocks. Sophomore right side
Jaden Blough (Meyersdale, Pa./Meyersdale) matched Sacramento with six total blocks of her own.
Grove City was paced by a balanced attack, as three Wolverines finished with double-digit kills. W&J did not have a service ace in the match while Grove City had six. Grove City held a narrow advantage (66-65) in kills while W&J had a 12-7 advantage in blocks.

W&J returns to action Tuesday when they travel to Bethany College for a conference match. Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
