WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Grove City scored a goal in each half as they downed the W&J women's soccer team by a 2-0 score Wednesday evening in a Presidents' Athletic Conference game at Alexandre Stadium.
Gianna D'Amato opened the scoring as they Wolverines tallied a score in the 11th minute of play. D'Amato headed in the ball after a cross was played in by Britta Lagerquist. The goal was the seventh this season by D'Amato.
The score remained 1-0 through halftime until the Wolverines tacked on an insurance goal in the 79th minute. Natalie Giunta registered her second goal of the season, as her blast from nearly 40 yards out extended the Grove City lead to 2-0.
The Wolverines made that two-goal lead stand out en route to their fourth shutout of the season.
Grove City out-shot W&J by a 20-2 margin (9-2 shots on goal) and tallied all nine corner kick chances.
Gabriella Lloyd (Butler, Pa./Butler) started and made seven saves in 90 minutes of work in goal.
Grove City (10-6-1, 7-2-1 PAC) claims the No. 3 seed in the upcoming PAC Tournament. W&J (5-5-6, 3-4-3 PAC) finishes in the sixth position as they head into the PAC Tournament. The two teams will rematch Saturday for a PAC Quarterfinals matchup at Grove City. Start time is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Don Lyle Field.
