NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson volleyball team struggled in a 3-0 loss at Westminster College in Presidents' Athletic Conference play Thursday evening at Buzz Ridl Gymnasium.
Westminster 3, W&J 0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-20)
The Presidents were never able to find their footing offensively in the loss. W&J finished with just 24 kills as they committed 22 attack errors as they were swept for just the second time this season. The .016 hitting percentage was the second worst of the season.
Westminster didn't light things it up offensively, as the home team compiled just a .138 hitting percentage with 19 attack errors. However, the Titans tallied 12 service aces with three players recording three each.
Claire Sauerland (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) was one of three Presidents to finish with six kills.
Piper McFarland (West Mifflin, Pa./Cornerstone Preparatory Academy) led all players with a game-high 24 kills.
The loss drops W&J to 11-11 overall. The Presidents, who were eliminated from PAC Tournament contention Tuesday with a loss at Bethany, finish conference play at 3-7.
W&J travels to Hiram College for a non-conference match at Price Gymnasium on Saturday, Oct. 29. The season finale for the Presidents begins at 2 p.m.
