STEUBENVILLE, Ohio -- Franciscan tallied a trio of goals scattered throughout the second half to secure a 3-1 victory over the Washington & Jefferson women's soccer team in a Presidents' Athletic Conference match Saturday afternoon in Steubenville, Ohio.
W&J got on the board early against a strong Baron defense as
Izzy Saloom (Ligonier, Pa. / Ligonier Valley) broke away for a clutch unassisted goal in the 29th minute of play. The Saloom score held up into halftime as W&J led 1-0 after 45 minutes.
The Barons' Juliana Rubino found the back of the net to tie the score in the 59th minute. Tania Davidson scored in the 78th minute and the 89th minute to give the Barons the victory.
The Presidents totaled four total shots, with one each coming from
Izzy Saloom (Ligonier, Pa. / Ligonier Valley),
Peyton Behling (Annapolis, Md. / Severn School),
Katie Brown (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley), and
Maddie Dittrich (Allison Park, Pa. / Hampton).
Gabriella Lloyd (Butler, Pa. / Butler) finished with nine saves in 90 minutes of work, as she held off the Barons initially during a scoreless first half.
The loss drops W&J to 3-3-5 overall and 2-2-2 in the PAC. Chatham moves to 9-3-1 overall and 5-0-1 in league play.
W&J hosts Penn State Beaver for a non-conference bout on Wednesday, Oct. 12. The match will start at 6:30 p.m.
