WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College men's lacrosse team suffered a 19-5 loss to visiting Marietta College in the season opener at Alexandre Stadium.
The win moved Marietta to 1-1 in 2022. The Pioneers jumped out to a 4-2 lead after the first before outscoring the Presidents by a combined 12-1 margin in the middle two quarters.
Five different Presidents scored in the setback.
Sam Snider (Morgantown, W. Va./University) and
Parker Lucas (Delmar, Del./Delmar) registered goals in the opening quarter of play.
Alex Strain (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper Saint Clair),
Zach Mey (Bridgeville, Pa. / South Fayette) and
Carter Watts (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) tallied scores in the second half to close out the scoring. Watts added a pair of assists in a three-point effort for W&J.
Luke Geister (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and
Ronin Keane (Medford, Mass./Arlington Catholic) registered four ground balls apiece, defensively.
Henry Beardwood (Wilmington, Del./Salesianum School) recorded eight saves in 60 minutes in the net.
W&J travels to Kenyon College on Wednesday, Feb. 23 as non-conference play continues. Start time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
