WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College women's lacrosse team suffered a 20-5 loss to visiting Capital University in the season opener at Alexandre Stadium.
The win moved Capital to 3-0 in 2022. The Comets jumped out to a 5-2 lead after the first before outscoring the Presidents by a combined 13-3 margin in the middle two quarters.
Sarah Labovitz (Great Falls, Va./The Bullis School) led the way with three goals.
Sofia Jenkins (Hughesville, Md./The Calverton School) and
Amanda Effland (Frederick, Md./Frederick) each scored on goal a piece for W&J.
Clara Sherwood (Indiana, Pa./Indiana Area) registered the team-high four ground balls, defensively.
Kaitlyn Brown (Charlotte Hall, Md./La Plata) recorded six saves in 60 minutes in the net.
W&J returns to action on Wednesday, March 2 to host Mount Union. Faceoff is scheduled for an 6 p.m. start time.
