CLERMONT, Fla. -- The Washington & Jefferson College softball team fell in a pair of games at the PFX Spring Games on Wednesday.
The Presidents fall to 4-4 this week in Florida.
Game 1: Union 8, W&J 1
W&J trailed by a 2-1 margin before Union tacked on six runs late in the game to finish off the victory. 
Austine Kinney (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) singled in the fifth inning to get W&J on the board. 
The Dutchmen responded by recording a six run inning in the top of the sixth to gain an 8-1 lead over the Presidents. 
Union held an 11-3 advantage on hits over the Presidents. 
Olivia Dewick, (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone) 
Ashleigh Gerber (Woodstock, Md./Marriots Ridge), and Kinney combined to record the three hits for W&J.
Chloe Smith (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry) got the start in the circle. Smith recorded her first loss of the season with 5.2 IP, eight hits and four walks. 
Game 2: Carleton: 10, W&J: 2 (6 innings)
Carleton posted a six-run inning in the bottom of the first to create a deficit the Presidents could not recover from. 
Sarah Labbe (Belgrade, Maine/Messalonksee) produced a two-run single to account for W&J's only runs in game two. 
Sydney Petrowski (Lemont Furnace, Pa./Connellsville) got the start in the circle for 3.0 innings before 
Jordan Hinz (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) came in to relieve. 
W&J will return to action on Thursday, March 24. W&J will face St. Catherine and Buffalo State to conclude their week. First pitch is scheduled for 9:30 a.m.
