HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- A slow start hindered the Washington & Jefferson women's lacrosse team in a 16-7 loss at Juniata in non-conference play Saturday.
The Eagles held the lead for the entirety of the match. Juniata led 2-1 after the first before holding a 7-3 advantage at halftime. The Eagles outscored the Presidents by a 9-4 margin over the final 30 minutes.
Amanda Effland (Frederick, Md./Frederick) paced the Presidents with three goals. Four other Presidents registered a single goal, which included the first collegiate goal by freshman
Haley Lawyer (Glenside, Pa./Archbishop Wood).
Defensively,
Gabby Galla (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) recorded three caused turnovers and two ground balls.
Kaitlyn Brown (Charlotte Hall, Md. / La Plata) posted 13 saves in 60 minutes in the net.
W&J travels to Hood College for a non-conference game on Saturday, March 12. Start time is set for 1 p.m.
