WLAX rolls past Westminster for sixth straight win

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson women's lacrosse team used a dominant effort to roll to an 18-2 victory over host Westminster Wednesday evening in a Presidents' Athletic Conference match at the UPMC Sports Complex.

W&J raced out to a 6-1 lead after the first and gained a 10-1 advantage by halftime. The Presidents inflicted the mercy rule clock in the second half as they outscored the Titans by an 8-1 margin over the final 30 minutes.

The win improves W&J to 5-0 in PAC play and 7-4 overall. Westminster is 2-7 overall and 0-5 in conference games.

Four different Presidents registered a hat trick and eight players scored overall in the win. Sofia Jenkins (Hughesville, Md./The Calverton School) and Clara Sherwood (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) netted four goals apiece as W&J picked up its sixth straight win.

Amanda Effland (Frederick, Md./Frederick) and Aisa Uhler (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) recorded three goals each. Becca Ghion (Sutersville, Pa./Yough) and Haley Lawyer (Glenside, Pa./Archbishop Wood) found the net once while Sarah Labovitz (Great Falls, Va./The Bullis School) and Emily Heck (Reading, Pa./Berks Catholic) finished with a goal and two assists apiece. Effland led W&J with six draw controls.

Sam Casile (New Kensington, Pa./Plum) and Labovitz paced W&J with four ground balls each while Ella Phillips (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) added three. All three recorded two caused turnovers each.

Kaitlyn Brown (Charlotte Hall, Md./La Plata) posted a stellar outing in net. She made nine stops and surrendered just two goals in 60 minutes to earn the win.
