WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Twelve players found the goal column as the the Washington & Jefferson women's lacrosse team rolled to a 19-1 win over visiting Waynesburg University on Saturday afternoon.
The win was the seventh straight for the Presidents. W&J is 6-0 in Presidents' Athletic Conference play and 8-4 overall. The loss drops the Yellow Jackets to 0-11 overall and 0-7 in conference games.
W&J led 7-0 after the first quarter and carried a 12-0 lead into halftime. After both teams scored once in the third, W&J added six more goals in the fourth to close the scoring.
The Presidents a balanced attack throughout the afternoon.
Emily Heck (Reading, Pa./Berks Catholic) filled the stat sheet with three goals, two assists, seven ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Amanda Effland (Frederick, Md./Frederick) added a hat trick of her own with three goals and two assists.
Clara Sherwood (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) turned in a strong performance of her own. The senior registered two goals, four ground balls, four draw controls and three caused turnovers.
Lina Crowley (Potomac, Md./The Bullis School) and
Aisa Uhler (Esat Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) added two goals apiece.
Katelyn Walzer (Sewickley, Pa./North Allegheny),
Sadie Firman (Richmond, Vt./Mount Mansfield Union) and
Haley Lawyer (Glenside, Pa./Archbishop Wood) each registered at least three points in the victory.
Sam Casile (New Kensington, Pa./Plum) posted four ground balls and four caused turnovers, defensively. Casile also found the back of the net for the first time this season, as did her defensive unitmate
Gabby Galla (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy).
Kaitlyn Brown (Charlotte Hall, Md./La Plata) made five saves in net over the 60 minutes.
W&J travels to Saint Vincent on Wednesday, April 27 for a PAC showdown. The two teams will tangle at 4 p.m.
