WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson men's lacrosse team battled with Westminster for a good chunk of the first half before the visitors pulled away to take a commanding 17-6 victory Saturday afternoon in a Presidents' Athletic Conference match at Alexandre Stadium.
W&J fall to 5-4 overall and 1-1 in PAC play while Westminster improves to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the league.
Carter Watts (Gilbertsville, Pa./Cumberland Valley) led the Presidents with two goals while
Alex Strain (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper Saint Clair),
Nathan Petrarco (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin),
Aiden Herman (West End, N.C./Pinecrest) and
Sam Snider (Morgantown, W.VA./University) each scored once for the Red & Black.
Westminster would be the only team to score in the first quarter, registering three goals over the initial 15 minutes. W&J heated up in the second quarter, registering three goals to go into halftime down by a 7-3 margin.
Snider would be the only President to score in the third quarter as Westminster extended its lead by scoring four of the five goals in the frame. Watts would record both of his goals in the fourth quarter.
Henry Beardwood (Wilmington, Del./Salesianum School) recorded 14 saves throughout 60 minutes of action in net for W&J.
Luke Geister (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) recorded seven ground balls to pace the Presidents, defensively.
W&J will return to action Friday, April 15 as they travel to Pittsburgh to face Chatham for a PAC match at 7 p.m.
