ALLIANCE, Ohio -- The University of Mount Union scored two goals in the first half and added one more in the second half to finish with a 3-1 win over the visiting Washington & Jefferson College men's soccer team on Thursday night in Alliance, Ohio.
The Purple Raiders got on the board first with a early goal in the 20th minute of regulation. The goal was set up by a couple of corner kicks and a missed shot which led to the 1-0 lead in the first half early on.
After the opening Mount Union goal,
McKinley Joseph (Stamford, Conn. / King School) helped W&J answer quickly as he tallied the equalizer in the 27th minute. Joseph's goal was assisted by classmate
Parker Byas (Columbia, Md. / Mount Saint Joseph).Â
Mount Union countered with a late goal in the first half as they took a 2-1 lead with less than 10 minutes remaining in the half. The Purple Raiders put the game away for good with a goal in the final minute of play.
Charles Boldosser (Westminster, Md. / South Carroll) ended the night with seven saves in a full 90 minutes of work for the Presidents.Â
The Presidents were outshot by a 15-2 margin (10-2 on goal). Mount Union had a 12-2 edge in corner kicks.Â
W&J travels to Hiram for a non-league match on Saturday, Sept. 3. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Â
