W&J, Muskingum battle to 3-3 draw

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- A late goal penalty kick goal helped Muskingum erase a multiple score deficit and earn a 3-3 draw with the Washington & Jefferson women's soccer team Thursday night in a non-conference match at Alexandre Stadium.

Maddie Dittrich (Allison Park, Pa./ Hampton) broke the scoreless tie with a strike late in the first half. Dittrich used assists by Courtney Actis (Bechtelsville, Pa. / Boyertown Area) and Sarah Schneider ( Warren, Ohio / Lordstown) to give W&J a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute.

At the beginning of the second half, the Fighting Muskies came out strong and scored 46th minute just a couple moments into the second half tying the score, 1-1.

W&J would tally consecutive goals to build a 3-1 lead midway through the second half. Sydney Hoover (Lancaster, Pa. / Manheim Township) delivered her first collegiate goal in the 57th minute to give the Presidents the advantage. First-year player Kendall Obley (Buena Vista, Pa. / McKeesport) launched for long range to give W&J a 3-1 edge in the 67th minute.

Muskingum was able to tally two goals in the final nine minutes to earn the tie. The Muskies got a score from Morgan Meisel in the 83rd minute before Meisel tallied another goal on a penalty kick a few minutes later.

Junior goalkeeper Gabriella Lloyd (Butler, Pa./Butler) got the start in goal and recorded two saves and allowed no goals during the first 45 minutes.

W&J held a 5-1 edge in corner kicks and a 15-6 advantage in shots (8-5 shots on goal).

The Red & Black travels to John Carroll University on Saturday, Sept. 3. The non-conference tilt will start at 1 p.m.
