WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson men's water polo team split a pair of matches Saturday at Henry Memorial Natatorium. The Presidents opened the day with an 18-6 win over Penn State Behrend before dropping a 13-5 decision to Augustana to conclude their day.
The split moves W&J to 3-1 overall. They will face Johns Hopkins and Toronto on Sunday.
W&J 18, Penn State Behrend 6
The Presidents tallied the first seven goals en route to a victory over the Lions. W&J led 7-0 after the first before taking a 10-4 lead at halftime. W&J led by a 15-5 margin after three quarters before rolling to the 18-6 victory.
Aidan Miller (Grove City, Ohio/St. Charles Prep) and
Mitchell Rubio (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) paced the Presidents with four goals apiece.
Alex Lee (Los Angeles, Calif./Eagle Rock),
Christopher Furlong (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley),
Andrew Edwards (Bexley, Ohio/St. Charles Prep) and
Chris Edwards (Bexley, Ohio/St. Charles Prep) tallied two goals each to aid a balanced offensive effort.
Caine Dusza (Souderton, Pa./Souderton) registered 10 saves to pick up the victory in goal.
Augustana 13, W&J 5
The match was tied 1-1 after the first quarter. After exchanging the first two scores of the second quarter, Augustana scored five of the next six goals to take a 7-3 lead into halftime. Augustana continued to hold momentum and outscored W&J by a 6-2 margin in the second half to take the victory.
Dusza made 12 saves in the second match to register his second double-digit save effort of the day.
