NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College women's tennis team opened its 2022 season Saturday with an 8-1 loss at Westminster College.
Playing without two of its top players, the Presidents managed just one victory on the afternoon. 
Bella Goldman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) registered the win at the top singles spot. Goldman, the team captain, dropped the first set by a 6-1 score to Emma Sukal. However, Goldman responded with a 6-1 win in the second set before claiming a 10-6 victory in the third-set tiebreaker. 
Jaelyn Kennedy (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove), the other W&J team captain, battled hard at second singles. After dropping the initial set 6-4, Kennedy secured a 6-0 win in the second. Her opponent, Sabrina Slagle, was able to edge Kennedy by a 10-7 margin in the third set tiebreaker. 
W&J returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 14 when they host Geneva College at the Janet Swanson Tennis Center.
