W&J takes a 3-1 road victory against Penn State Altoona

ALTOONA, Pa. -- Senior midfielder Zach Bowser scored two first half goals to lead the the Washington & Jefferson College men's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Penn State Altoona Saturday afternoon in Blair County.

The win improves the Presidents to 3-3 for the season. The Lions fall to 2-3 in 2022.

Bowser scored in the 20th minute and again in the 41st minute to give W&J a multi-goal advantage. His first goal came off of a penalty kick triggered by the Lions backline, setting up the early 1-0 lead. Later in that half Bowser and the Presidents frontline would drive down the pitch and find the back of the net as Connor Lanigan (Merrimack, N.H. / Merrimack) assisted the Bowser score.

W&J would carry that momentum and a 2-0 lead into halftime. In his first game of 2022, after having an impactful 2021, Sophomore Nolan Agostoni (Greensburg, Pa./Latrobe) would score on an assist from Ethan Bowser (McKeesport, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) to give the Presidents some breathing room for the remainder of the game.

Penn State Altoona tallied a late goal, as Garrett Giedroc scored off an assist from Sebastian Tem, to erase the shutout in the 86th minute.

W&J would hold the advantage in shots (12-8) and shots on goal (9-3). Both teams attempted six corner kicks. Bowser would lead W&J in shots (5) and shots on goal (4).
